Monday Edge Badminton - Standard of Play

We try to maintain a reasonable social standard of play across all courts at the Monday Edge Badminton Club to help ensure the enjoyment of all players. All members of the club are expected to be able to demonstrate a minimum standard of play that is consistent with that of an experienced Social Player (see below for details).

If you’re returning to play after a gap or have only recently started to play, then come along for a trial period of four weeks so you can find your feet and see how you get on. If, after playing for 4 weeks, we feel you may benefit from some additional coaching, then we’ll have a discreet chat with you and try to signpost you to some coaching so that you can take the chance to improve your game. If you’re progressing well, but not quite at the minimum level, then we may extend your trial, so you can have a bit longer to get to the level of play of an experienced Social player.

The minimum level of play we have is consistent with that of an experienced Social Player, as defined below:

a) Able to understand and consistently apply the scoring and rules of Badminton,

b) Able to serve consistently,

c) Able to consistently maintain a rally during a game using both forehand and backhand shots,

d) Able to understand and position yourself before a serve and during a rally, to avoid a collision with your playing partner and to put yourself in a good position to return the shuttlecock safely and successfully.

We also, on occasions, when there is demand, run coaching sessions for groups of starters or improvers - so you will also have the opportunity to join one of these coaching sessions. Please make our Membership Secretary aware if you would like to be notified of upcoming coaching sessions by email to [email protected] .
